Gaming Addiction:
Gaming, not gambling, addiction is too powerful. There needs to be more righteous strength in avoiding too many TV type (computer, xbox, etc.) games.
An effective approach to understanding gaming addiction is to set aside the act of betting. The games are the addicting part.
Some people believe playing games with friends is ok. Games can promote the spirit of perfection when people like winning.
However, the games we play alone carry too much selfishness because they neglect important things in life. TV game types (computer, xbox, etc.) are the popular ones we play when alone.
Gamers need to know how they can avoid excessive gaming.
The Holy Bible does not say that gambling or gaming is bad (evil). There are no Words from God that we are supposed to follow, regarding gaming addiction.
Gaming seems evil when it causes one to spend too much time neglecting the important things in one's life. Playing games alone, for the most part, is not carrying out God's will.
Here are some bible verses on carrying out God's will:
Matthew 10:38 - Jesus said: "and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." - bible.cc/matthew/10-38.htm
Matthew 16:24 - "Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.'" - bible.cc/matthew/16-24.htm
Matthew 4:20 - Regarding the desciples of Jesus: "And they left their nets at once and followed him." - bible.cc/matthew/4-20.htm
Mark 2:14 - "When Jesus was leaving, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus, sitting in a tax office. Jesus said to him, 'Follow me!' So Levi got up and followed him." - bible.cc/mark/2-14.htm
Luke 22:42 - Jesus said: "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." - bible.cc/luke/22-42.htm
Romans 15:3 - "For even Christ didn't live to please himself. As the Scriptures say, 'The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me.'" - bible.cc/romans/15-3.htm
1 Peter 2:25 - "Once you were like sheep who wandered away. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls." - bible.cc/1_peter/2-25.htm
Here are some relevant bible verses on exclusive regard to one's own interest or happiness (selfishness):
Proverbs 18:1 - "An unfriendly man pursues selfish ends; he defies all sound judgment." - bible.cc/proverbs/18-1.htm
James 3:16 - "For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice." - bible.cc/james/3-16.htm
Those of us addicted to TV type games need to be wise in all we do. We need to "just say no" to excessive gaming in order to continue our quest for perfection.
